Membership is open to university and hogeschool (professional school) students in Amsterdam. Foreign and exchange students can also apply for membership through the Nereus Excellence Program. With more than 800 members, Nereus is the biggest student rowing club in the Netherlands.
Nereus offers international top students that want to combine high level rowing and studying (or working) in Amsterdam a program specifically designed for them, supporting and facilitating exchange students in their studies and rowing careers and assisting with practical matters.
Visit the Nereus Excellence Program website for more information.
Nereus organizes several rowing races, amongst which the internationally renowned Heineken Roeivierkamp. This pre-season regatta (held every March) annually attracts a lot of foreign crews. The unique racing format (250m, 750m, 2500m and 5000m) proves to be a spectacular sight and experience for both spectator and athlete.
Nereus is also organizer of the Dutch Indoor Rowing Championship. This event was host of the Open European Championships three times, in 2004, 2006 and 2015. Still, each December a group of foreign rowing enthusiasts participate at this event.
